More than 150 people attended the TEDxLosGatos in the Opera House on 26 October to hear a variety of speakers, both personally and on video, give “TED Talks” on art, music, the role of technology crimes and even the origin of pleasure, to name just a few topics.
Ted’s mission statement says, “we believe passionately in the power of ideas to change attitudes, lives and ultimately, the world. So we’re building here a Clearinghouse that offers free knowledge and inspiration from the world’s most inspired thinkers and also a community of curious souls to engage with ideas and with each other. “
TEDxLosGatos curated by Los Gatos community volunteers Jonathan Knowles, who was a veteran of the TED Conference.
Speakers included musician and Orloff, who was the founder of a new nonprofit organization called Bay Area rock. He pointed out that “almost every technology production and distribution of music can trace its roots back to Silicon Valley.”
For example, in 1967 Los Gatos resident Bob Gallien introduced one of the world’s most powerful bass amps. “Bob sold his first amp for up and coming rockers, Carlos Santana,” Orloff said.
